When I go to the YouTube, I go to seek the music, movie trailers and tutorials on how to do some things. And there are a huge number of people who do exactly that and nothing else. So, from my standpoint, I doubt the YouTube will fall.
But, if anyone for any reason has been banned, or can not reach that magical number of subscribers in order to earn from their channel then I suggest leaning toward alternatives.
Now, this article suggests a few alternative platforms, but not all. There are more. The benefit of all of them is that they already have a population, audience and you don't need to seek external sources of traffic.
The downfall is that an each of these has more demanding audience, while the people who use the YouTube as their primary video source are more laid back.
Decentralized or blockchain based storages¶
IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) is a decentralized and distributed network for storing and accessing files, websites, and other data. It aims to replace traditional centralized server-client systems with a peer-to-peer network where each node has a unique identifier (hash) and can store and retrieve data from any other node in the network.
IPFS offers several advantages over traditional centralized file storage systems, including:
- Decentralization: IPFS distributes files across a network of nodes, rather than relying on a central server, making it more resistant to downtime, censorship, and single points of failure.
- Content Addressing: Files are identified by a unique hash, allowing for efficient and permanent links to content, making IPFS well suited for hosting websites, images, and other content.
- Versioning: IPFS supports versioning of files, allowing for easy collaboration, rollback, and preservation of historical versions.
- Improved Efficiency: IPFS is designed to be fast and efficient, allowing for faster access times and reduced network congestion compared to traditional file transfer protocols.
- Interoperability: IPFS is protocol agnostic and can be used to transfer data between different networks, making it a flexible solution for data storage and transfer.
- Privacy: IPFS provides options for encrypting and distributing data in a way that protects the privacy of both the users and the data itself.
Some alternatives to IPFS include:
A peer-to-peer file sharing protocol for distributing large amounts of data over the internet.
A distributed storage platform and content distribution service, a native base layer of the web3 stack.
A decentralized, blockchain-based cloud storage platform that enables users to rent out their unused disk space to others.
A decentralized cloud storage platform that utilizes blockchain technology to securely store and access data.
A decentralized platform that offers secure, private, and censor-resistant data storage and communication services.
These are some of the popular alternatives to IPFS, each has its own unique features and use cases, and the choice of which to use depends on the specific requirements and goals of the project or application.
Centralized YouTube alternatives¶
Centralized YouTube alternatives are video-sharing platforms that are owned and operated by a single entity, unlike decentralized platforms. Here are a few examples:

Patreon is a membership platform that enables content creators, such as artists, writers, and musicians, to earn recurring revenue from their fans or patrons. It offers various payment tiers and benefits to supporters, such as exclusive content and early access.
A platform that allows creators to monetize their content through recurring payments or one-time donations.
A platform that allows creators to receive one-time payments or recurring donations from their fans.
A platform that focuses on supporting creators in the gaming, arts, and culture industries.
A platform that primarily caters to adult content creators, and allows them to monetize their content through subscription-based or tip-based models.
A non-profit platform that allows users to make recurring donations to support the work of creators.
Buy Me a Coffee¶
A platform that allows creators to receive one-time payments or recurring donations from their fans in exchange for perks or rewards.
These are just a few examples of platforms that can be used as alternatives to Patreon. Each platform has its own unique features and target audience, so it's important to consider which one will work best for your specific needs and audience.
Dailymotion is a video hosting and sharing platform that allows users to upload, view, and share videos with a global audience. It offers a wide range of content, including news, sports, entertainment, and more.
Twitch is a live streaming platform primarily used for video game streaming, but also includes content on art, music, talk shows, and other creative pursuits. It has a large and active community of users and offers features like live chat, donations, and subscriptions.
Twitch/streaming alternatives are:
A gaming-focused streaming platform owned by Google. It offers a large audience, integrated chat and live streaming capabilities.
A gaming-focused platform from Facebook that allows users to stream live and interact with viewers.
A streaming platform that focuses on creating a social experience for viewers and streamers.
A blockchain-based streaming platform that incentivizes engagement and interaction between streamers and viewers through a reward system.
Freedom.tm is a decentralized and private web browser that aims to protect users' privacy and security by blocking advertisements, trackers, and other malicious content. It utilizes the Tor network for anonymous browsing and supports decentralized web protocols like IPFS.
